The Sprint and Super Sprint Combo Relay consists of two or three people who hand off the timing chip in transition at the swim-in or bike-in. The race consists of a 750-meter and 250-meter open water swim in Lake Michigan; a 12-mile and 6-mile bike; and a 3.1-mile and 1.5-mile run. Athletes will first complete the sprint distance triathlon (750-mete swim, 12-mile bike, and 1.5-mile run) before returning to the start line to complete a super sprint triathlon (250-meter swim, 6-mile bike, and 1.5-mile run).

Bike racks will be divided by event (sprint/super sprint/combo/relay). Racking within your event will be open—not by number. Each rack will contain 8 bikes (4 on each side). Please be aware of how much space you are using and do not take up more than your allotted space.

Bikes should be racked by the seat and will alternate sides of the rack. Your bike should be on the opposite side of the rack than the bikes on either side of you. All of your belongings must fit on the ground, on the right side of your front tire when standing in front of your racked bike, directly behind the back tire of the person next to you.

No athlete will be allowed to re-enter transition until the last cyclist has left the transition area and is out on the run course. This is for the safety of all athletes. Any athlete who enters transition and retrieves their bike without being cleared to do so will be disqualified. Please do not argue with our volunteers about this.

There is minimal parking at Gillson Beach and this parking lot will close and reopen with the roads. If you park in this lot, you will NOT be able to exit until the bike course has reopened to traffic at approximately 10:00 am.

There are two large parking lots at 4th and Linden and at Isabella and 5th for you to park at. You can also park on the borough streets where parking is permitted. Please provide extra time for getting to the park and keep in mind the roads will close at 6 am.

While there is no official cutoff time for the race, the bike course will officially re-open to car traffic at 9:45 am. The run course will open to the public at 10:30 am. Any runners who are still on the course will be moved to the sidewalks to complete the event. Volunteers will remain on the course to make sure that race participants can safely complete the event even after the roads reopen.

The official age group awards ceremony will kick off as soon as all results are finalized at approximately 9:45 am.

Official race times will be posted at regular intervals until all athletes have crossed the finish line. If you won an age group award but missed the official ceremony, you can still collect your award. All athletes are eligible for age group awards regardless of their swim start group.

USAT Competitive Rules

We are always paying close attention to the weather. We are not able to predict changes to the race until race morning. On race morning, we will make decisions as early as we can and notify athletes and volunteers by email and through our event pages.

Our goal is to provide a safe opportunity for everyone. If there is thunder and lightning, the race will be delayed and you will be asked to wait in your cars, or under appropriate cover. If it is raining, we plan to continue with the event and will make modifications as needed.

We will provide any updates at the earliest possible time. Please do not contact us on race morning. We will be very busy planning and setting up the race course. We will be unable to return emails or phone calls. You can help us by being flexible.

Let’s all have a great day of it and enjoy this wonderful opportunity.
